The Day Pitney Scholarship Fund will underwrite 10 scholarships to MCLE programs every year to support pro bono and legal aid training
December 12, 2016—MCLE New England is pleased to announce that Day Pitney LLP has made a generous contribution of $25,000 to MCLE’s scholarship endowment to establish the Day Pitney Scholarship Fund to support pro bono and legal aid training. Starting in 2017, the fund will provide 10 scholarships to MCLE programs every year to deserving lawyers who serve the public interest, including private practitioners who accept pro bono cases and legal aid staff attorneys who, day in, day out, serve those in need.
“A commitment to giving back to the legal community and more broadly, through pro bono services, is an integral part of the culture at Day Pitney,” said Peter Shapland, managing partner of Day Pitney’s Boston office. “We take great pride in applying our legal skills to benefit and protect individuals and charitable organizations, and in sponsoring the MCLE scholarship program.”
For over a century, Day Pitney has made pro bono work and service to its communities a priority. Day Pitney lawyers and staff, through numerous initiatives and community partnerships, donate thousands of hours annually to various causes benefitting traditionally underserved populations in matters involving such issues as civil rights, criminal law, domestic abuse, disability, health and medical care, guardianship proceedings, housing, immigration, special education, and Veterans benefits.
MCLE’s Board of Trustees thanks Day Pitney LLP and all of the firm’s partners for its leadership gift and for helping MCLE in its efforts to grow its endowment so that the underprivileged have access to the best trained lawyers.
